Is your school in Georgia? Then you may have a shot at a firm in Atlanta. I guess it would depend on your school, but even 40% of John Marshall students end up with JD-required jobs. If you're talking biglaw, then your chances are slim from Mercer or John Marshall even at top 5%.
Is your school outside of Georgia? Then your chances are very slim. It would depend on your ties to Atlanta and your school's placement.

My school is in Georgia/somewhere in the southeast where Atl is the biggest and most accessible market for big law

I would look at the top rated vault firms In ATL (use the regional rankings), and then look on the firms' websites to see how many of your school's alumni are there. Assuming your school is well-known in the South, you might see more than you'd expect.

This question is important, because if the answer is merely "somewhere in the southeast where Atl is the biggest and most accessible market," then the odds are far less than if you are in Georgia.Anonymous User wrote:My school is in Georgia/somewhere in the southeast where Atl is the biggest and most accessible market for big law
At any rate, the answer is irrelevant b/c Atl's your best shot at biglaw and there's zero reason not to hustle for it. Either way it'll be up hill, but within the realm of possibility. Best of luck, OP.

I'm guessing based on the roundabout answer that the school isn't in Georgia.SplitMyPants wrote:This question is important, because if the answer is merely "somewhere in the southeast where Atl is the biggest and most accessible market," then the odds are far less than if you are in Georgia.Anonymous User wrote:My school is in Georgia/somewhere in the southeast where Atl is the biggest and most accessible market for big law

People will be better able to help you if you identify a school or at least say "its one of A B or C" Some TTT/TTTT are much much worse than others. Also, if you want Atlanta you have a better shot coming from somewhere like Mercer than Charlotte School of Law.

I didn't specify because I would prefer none of my classmates figure out who I am, given that I'm also thinking about transferring. I go to school in GA, will be on LR next year, and big law in Atlanta is the name of the game. If I go by what my professors say, I'll be getting at least an interview with all the big firms through oci and am SURE to get a big firm job for summer 2L. If I go by TLS posts, I'm a worthless piece of shit at a TTT who will never find a job and be found dead drowning in a pool of vomit and debt. Methinks the answer is in between.

The strawmen and anon abuse are strong with this one.
Your professors are wrong, you're not BIG LAW SECURE NO MATTER WHAT. You're probably in ok shape though, most likely it is doable.

Take a look at law school transparency to get a better feel for your chances. http://www.lstscorereports.comAnonymous User wrote:I didn't specify because I would prefer none of my classmates figure out who I am, given that I'm also thinking about transferring. 1% of John Marshall students get biglaw. 7% of Mercer students get biglaw or fed clerkships. Either way, you are far from guaranteed to get biglaw at top 5% and whether you land biglaw will depend on your resume and interviewing abilities. Mass-mail like crazy. Hustle hard and prepare well for all of your interviews.

I have a hard time believing that anyone at John Marshall gets a real biglaw job. That 1% is most likely a staff attorney or doing doc review. I've never even heard of a John Marshall grad working as an associate at any of the big firms.FluffMonster wrote:Take a look at law school transparency to get a better feel for your chances. http://www.lstscorereports.comAnonymous User wrote:I didn't specify because I would prefer none of my classmates figure out who I am, given that I'm also thinking about transferring. OP, I'm guessing you're at Mercer since you mentioned getting a job through OCI (and I'm pretty sure big firms don't do OCI at John Marshall... if it even HAS an OCI). Top 5% at Mercer is competitive for ATL biglaw but it's FAR from guaranteed. Transferring might help your chances but it's hard to say.

Idk if i would give up that position at mercer to transfer to emory or UGA. i mean yea, mercer doesnt look as good at uga, but you already have a foot in the door for OCI
