Long term career wise, does your first firm chump school?
Or vice versa?
Would you rather go from Harvard to a V80-100, or a t1 school to a v5?

I think the title should read, "does your first firm trump school?"dwyf wrote:Or vice versa?

As a practicing lawyer in a big firm, I can assure you that, from a long-term career perspective, the answer is V5, and by a wide margin. Once you are applying for your second job, whether as a lateral or in house, the primary consideration will be what firm you are coming from, the work you did there, etc. Yes, school will matter and H can only help, but it becomes secondary.

Ha. Yes, but I kind of like it this way now. Here's to hoping it kicks off. I was drinking instead of working last night, completely forgot I made it.

Depends on your employer. A Fortune 500 might prefer W&M->Latham over Harvard->DLA Piper, but if you are shopping around for an attorney as an individual, or as an agency/org without a long history of hiring biglaw, the Harvard name inspires much greater confidence.
