Summer Associate Headshot

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Mar 13, 2015 9:20 pm

So the firm that I'm SAing at asked for a headshot for the firm-wide directory. At first I thought I would just crop a decent facebook picture, but they're asking for a headshot in business formal attire.

Should I go get some cheap headshots done, or just stand in front of a wall and have my girlfriend take a picture of me? I don't want to look like a gunner with a real headshot, but I also don't want to look like a slob.

Thanks.

I was told to get a passport photo (firm reimburses). I suppose if you can duplicate the conditions of a passport photo you could do it at home, if you were not told otherwise. On the other hand, why not just get a passport photo? They're less than $10 and you know it won't look weird or stand out. It's not being a gunner to go to a drugstore to buy something the firm told you to get.

I’d just take a nice selfie. Background shouldn’t matter since headshots are pretty tightly cropped. After being offered you’ll be sent to a local photography studio for your firm net pictures. Dress up, those are often half body.

Good lord, don't take a selfie. Selfies look so stupid. Just get a friend to take it.

OP, photo taken at home should be fine. Don't overthink this.

Some people are suggesting you get a passport photo but I would disagree with that. A passport photo is supposed to be straight on with a neutral expression and everyday clothing. Just have a girlfriend or roommate take a nice photo of you in professional dress with a natural smile and you want your shoulders to be turned slightly with head angled slightly down. If you take the headshot straight on like a passport photo it will look dumb.

the CVS guy will not take your picture if you come in a suit. he will also wait until you stop smiling. this will not work

JC Penneys usually runs portrait package specials for $10 or less. Or check groupon. Give the extras to family members--who doesn't love a framed awkward photo?!?
