Bringing parents/SO to see your office?
Parents/SO are interested in seeing what my office looks like, is it a faux pas to bring them to my office to show them around?

I did over my summer. It was my girlfriend and we were having lunch in the cafeteria.

No, it's fine. Just don't be the guy who has lunch with his mother in the cafeteria once a week.

Significant other is fine. Parents, no. That's just weird.

IMO pretty weird for anyone unless there's a good pretext.

Why not? Do it on Saturday or Sunday afternoon when not many people are around.

I totally did this, but not during office hours, preferably on the weekend when heading to a ball game before / after. I made it and wanted to show it.

It's not that weird. Parents are proud and want to see their kid's accomplishments. Just do it on the weekend.kalvano wrote:Significant other is fine. Parents, no. That's just weird.

One person I work with dropped by with her mom, husband, and her baby while on maternity leave so people could meet her baby and it was not weird.
I think if there is ANY pretext then it is not weird, even if that pretext is as simple as "my moms in town and we were in the neighborhood."
That being said, it's a big pain in the ass to get people into my building. I would have to have out main receptionist put them on the visitors list and then have them check in with security and get a temp pass. This makes a weekend or after business hours drop in not possible unless it were preplanned.

I meant during the normal work day. Yeah, weekend isn't really that weird (if you're K-JD).mmelittlechicken wrote:It's not that weird. Parents are proud and want to see their kid's accomplishments. Just do it on the weekend.kalvano wrote:Significant other is fine. Parents, no. That's just weird.

Even if you're not a K-JD, it's really not weird as long as it's not during the regular workday.kalvano wrote:I meant during the normal work day.
