Is it strange to not have SA program dates yet?
I'm wondering if most summer associates know the dates of their SA programs yet. Most of the other people at my school who have landed Biglaw SA positions seem to have been told the start and end dates of their respective programs (as well as other details), but I haven't heard anything yet.
I was told via email by the legal recruiter at my firm that the firm expects to know the SA program dates in early January and would communicate with us as soon as they know, but I have yet to hear anything. Is it too aggressive to reach out and politely ask if they have the dates yet? I ask because I was invited to 3 weddings this summer and need to figure out whether or not I can attend them. Also, it would just be nice to know.
Any input is much appreciated.

My firm set dates with three starting dates in may ~11; ~17; ~25 and a firm end on August 9th. We have the option to choose when we want to start.
A few friends have corroborated that they have similar dates.
Not sure if that helps at all.

How long ago did you hear about your dates?
And to those that haven't heard, I'm glad I'm not alone.

I got dates from my firm in NYC during December. I don't see why you couldn't ask, especially since you have a good reason to want to know. Email someone in recruiting or whoever your contact has been regarding the summer program.

Late December. I agree that you should ask your firm, it's a completely legitimate question.Anonymous User wrote:OP here -Anonymous User wrote:My firm set dates with three starting dates in may ~11; ~17; ~25 and a firm end on August 9th. We have the option to choose when we want to start.

I found out this week. It's not strange at all that you haven't heard, but it is also perfectly acceptable to ask politely.

it's a little gunnery. i didn't find out till way later. you have an idea of when it starts, and you're probably just insecure so wanna make sure it wasn't some elaborate prank. so i'll reassure you: it is very statistically unlikely you got punked, but not impossible.

As I mentioned, I wanted to know because I have 3 outstanding wedding invites and I need to figure out if I can attend them. Flights need to be purchased, hotels booked, etc. So my desire for the start and end dates is not simply because I'm "insecure."
Edit: Additionally, I was told I would have the dates in early January.

This idea might be kind of crazy, but what about just asking the firm?

If it makes you feel any better I'm going to go ahead and give you the BigZuck guarantee that you won't be no offered because you asked what the dates of the summer program will be.Anonymous User wrote:BigZuck, that's why I asked if it was appropriate in the OP...BigZuck wrote:This idea might be kind of crazy, but what about just asking the firm?
