Rejected by OC after first round. That first round was absolutely brutal. Had Kern this week, and a couple more coming up.

A lot of the DAs who interview you will be pissed off/tired or at least act like it. Don't let that throw you off.

I couldn't even get an intvw with OC. Kern was awful. It was only a few seconds and looks like they may already have the open spots spoken for. Questions like, "what you're stance on the death penalty," seem irrelevant at best and a inappropriate at worst. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm interviewing them as much as they're interviewing me.

Best of luck to you. I'm sure you'll land something.

Seems like a good idea to get the pulse of the office before interviewing with each individual department. If you're in a conservative area and they're looking for hardcore prosecutor who's out for blood, it's probably not a good idea to be honest about your stance on the DP if it's that you're against it. A lot of interviewing is saying what they want to hear.

Know office politics, know the area, and know big ticket issues before going into the interivew.

Thanks. OC got 400 applicants and interviewed 180, so they did do a round one in the background by cutting more than half. For some reason, I also believe a lot of these offices already have an idea of who they're going to hire (current and previous interns), and are just going through this process to abide with hiring laws.

I can't help but notice that a large component in DA hiring is being in the right place at the right time in an office that auto-hires its previous interns. For any future readers of this thread, I suggest you do your research thoroughly and see which counties are loyal to their previous interns (e.g. NOT LA). I am finding it is very tough to break into a DA's office as an outsider. You really have to be one of a kind.

OC closed a few months ago, it was only open for less than a week. They're just about to start second round interviews.

As far as I know all of the above-listed offices have already closed for accepting apps. They're now going through the initial DQ phase and most are currently either extending invitations for first round interviews or sending out thanks-but-no-thanks letters.

Next week San Bernadino is holding first round interviews, then Ventura, and Monterey County.

A lot of office are still evaluating the apps.

LA is hiring again this summer, but off an old unexpired list, the one from last year.

Has anybody heard from Santa Barbara yet? I received an email a little more than a month ago stating that they were still reviewing the written submissions and I haven't heard anything since.

I thought this was the only way DA/PD offices did their entry-level hiring.

But the fact that CA agencies are hiring through the public and have tons of positions is a huge improvement from the past handful of years when hiring was frozen or anemic.

I got the same email. I haven't heard anything yet either, which means they probably haven't sent out invitations to interview yet. The first email sent on Jan. 11, 2015. I'll update if I hear anything.

Where did you hear Ventura is even hiring/interviewing? I heard a month ago, first hand, from the Chief Assistant District Attorney they are NOT hiring.

Your "first hand info from the Chief Asst. DA" is probably correct, Ventura County PD opened on 2/12/15. I think everyone on this forum is talking about SoCal D.A./P.D. opportunities interchangeably since they're both Civil Service positions in the field of Criminal law, to avoid starting a new forum.

I interviewed with SB about a week and a half ago. To my knowledge, they wrapped up the first round last Friday 2/27.

Santa Barbara callbacks are scheduled for March 18. They asked that we leave 15 minutes following the panel interview so that candidates who are chosen will meet with the DA that same afternoon.

Same. Do you interpret the email as stating that only 10 applicants are in score range 1, or just that they'll send the top 10 applicants from score range 1 to the department whenever a vacancy occurs? If it's the former, then we might have a good chance of becoming co-workers!

It is probably the latter. That sheet of paper we got stated only the top scoring applicants in Group 1 will make it to the second round interview.

My interpretation is that they have not indicated to us how many are in range 1. I believe they will send the top 10 people beginning in range 1 to the DAs office for round 2. So if there are 50 in range one they start with the top 10 out of the 50 in range one. If there are 7 in range 1 they start with those 7 then move to the top 3 in range 2. For those of us in range 1, our success depends on how many they are trying to hire (hopefully more than 10) and also how many people that are ranked above us in range 1. I surely hope we can be co-workers, best of luck!

So the notice I received said interviews were starting March 16th, which is Monday and only the top names would be referred to the department. Although I made it in range 1, I guess I was not invited to the interview yet. Anyone get a call for an interview from range 1?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
