Do biglaw firms care if you work during the school year?

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Feb 08, 2015 2:25 am

2L here that is going to be working at a big firm this summer. I'm interested in potentially being a Westlaw or Lexis rep to make some spending money, but I was wondering if firms would care about this. Should I ask mine or is it safe to assume they wouldn't (or would) care?

Dude, dont be a jackass, and if you insist on it, dont do it with the Anonymous feature. The trolling on this site used to be at least amusing, now its downright pathetic.

OP, tons of people with BigLaw offers are reps, dont worry about it. They a)will not care, and b) will not care.

FWIW, I know someone who got a really nice biglaw SA for 2L and mentioned that the partner that gave her the offer indicated that one thing they found especially attractive about her as a candidate was that she was a lexis rep (and thereby very familiar with their tools).
So to say that all firms look down on a lexis rep is pretty stupid and narrow minded. At most they would find it neutral, but assuming the same grades between someone who was a rep vs. someone who was not a rep, what firm wouldn't favor the rep??

OP- you can mention it to the recruiting department if you want, unlikely the firm will care, or hold it against you. I think most people understand that students want to do anything they can to make a little money while still in law school, even prior to the SA summer. Good for you for taking the initiative.

Only thing is make sure that you do not incur conflicts and if you do disclose them to your firm when you return.

You will need to disclose this to the firm in case a conflict arises.
