Should we keep in touch with firms after accepting? Forum

I accepted an offer from a lower V100 firm two months ago and got a response from the hiring partner congratulating me. Since then, I haven't heard a word from the firm. Is this usual?

Looking into the future, should I keep in touch with the firm and, if so, how so? I was thinking of contacting them in December to ask if I could visit the office, but I don't want to come off as over-zealous compared to my other summer associates....

There's no reason they would contact you. Don't worry about that.

Why do you want to go visit the office? That would seem weird.

I think most firms will reach out around Xmas time. Probably (definitely?) will get an invite to their xmas party, and will likely get some sort of xmas gift

Firm Christmas parties are great. Plenty of good eats and drinks. Even if you have to pay to get there, it’s worth it!

Is someone suggesting that you travel (train and/or plane) to go to the firm's Christmas party? That's ridiculous.

If it's within 1-2 hour drive from where you're already planning on being that weekend, then you should go. Otherwise, don't be the weird guy who paid $500 for flight + hotel that brings a bunch of good cheer to a party where associates drink heavily to forget the abuse they took during the year.

Yeah, I didn't nor do I know anyone who did. I don't think it's expected, and I also doubt that they're all talking about you and waiting for you to come. I still think it could seem weird to fly in for a party before you know anybody. If anything, it's very, very eager, and I don't think being known as very, very anything is good when the goal is to simply not screw up.

Wow I'm now realizing that my firm getting "return to sender" and asking me to update my mailing address may have been secret confirmation for a holiday present.

I accepted my offer about 2.5 months ago and hadn't heard anything until this past Friday.

Recruiter reached out to give me the names/schools of the other SAs, asked for updated resume if anything has changed (because they "like to brag about us"), and asked me to verify my mailing address "in case" they send a holiday surprise gift.

So down for this impending gift.
