if you're a litigation associate. It takes YEARS of consistently applying to almost any job in your area (assuming you're in a major market).

That's why I went into patent prosecution... where you can go in-house from a 3 attorney firm after 2 years of experience!

How does that work? is your salary only adjusted for inflation? is it capped at 400k or something?

I would assume it is significantly less than 400. That's non-equity partner/counsel money.
