If you go to CLE's that have a registration fee and are put on by non-lawyers, they're free vacation time. Profit motive for them = check in on day one and then go enjoy yourself.

In many firms, you are entitled to get your vacation day(s) back if you bill over a certain number of hours when you're "off." Talk to HR.

From what I've heard, firms where vacation days aren't counted = firms where you can take off as much time as you want "so long as it's a good time" = firms where you can't take off much time at all.

I'd rather be at a place where they count the days and let you use them than where you have unlimited time off that you don't take. But to each their own.

Also you can't get them paid back if you never take em.

Colleague of mine will sometimes add "Sent from my Android" or whatever the signature is, even when in the office, when responding to short emails with an answer that cites an arcane statute or something to make it appear that he has deep expertise and can counsel in real time. I've seen him at his desk just minutes after sending some of these "thoughtful" mobile phone emails. Pretty funny if you ask me.

probably more TTT to have "unlimited vacation." consensus is that it's blatant cost cutting.

Now see I would do this so that I could get away with quick "idk" replies.

Different strokes, I guess.

Seems like a good way to make people think you're out of the office for no reason in the middle of the afternoon.

Someone gives you a clearly bogus assignment. Never do it.
