Re: Lowenstein Sandler (NYC) vs. Greenberg Traurig (Miami)
Greenberg is among the better of the very limited number of Miami firms from which one could lateral to other markets, but it's still not the best. Then again, the Lowenstein name is pretty regional. No clear-cut winner there.

yeah. Lowenstein is a solid firm and is the best in NJ but is kind of a smaller fish in NYC and not as well regarded as most generic nyc vault firms. They also pay below market. Anecdotal but I also had a friend who summered there who said it was not a very pleasant place to work.Anonymous User wrote:OP here. Would you mind elaborating a bit? GT pays market in miami, and is probably the best firm in Florida. I know white and case has a large miami office but GT was founded there and it is treated by most as the best firm around.
Also 145k in Miami >>>>>>>>> 160k in NYC, let alone 150 facing compression in years 2+.
I don't know which firm is healthier financially and I don't know anything about Lowenstein's partnership prospects but I do know that partnership is a somewhat viable goal at most Miami firms, GT included.

Re: Lowenstein Sandler (NYC) vs. Greenberg Traurig (Miami)
the NJ firm culture at Lowenstein is pretty terrible. sweatshop atmosphere with a bunch of attorneys who are very intense, serious (like to pride themselves on taking INITIATIVE and RESPONSIBILITY) and pretty gunnerish. lowenstein is the firm that takes a lot of their students from sorta regional schools but who were at the top of their class so have that in mind.
I heard the NYC firm culture is a bit better since everyone is a lateral so there's that.

I have several friends at Greenberg MIA that are miserable there, FWTW. Dunno anyone at Lowenstein but I've heard good things about the NYC office environment.

I know people who would sacrifice their first born child to work at GT Miami. Not sure how that speaks to the comparison but it's definitely the far more desirable choice generally.

I don't agree. This is usually only people at FL schools or people who had grown up in SoFl that are at other schools. Outside of FL people are not gunning for GT MIA over any other firm & location, generally. On TLS and ATL GT is "generally" regarded as a sweatshop.Anonymous User wrote:I know people who would sacrifice their first born child to work at GT Miami. They dont go down but the lockstep is going to be lower for a firm that starts off below market to begin with.Anonymous User wrote:The salary goes down? while lockstep would be 160 170 185, lowenstein might be something like 150, 157,500, 167,500 etc. (i made these numbers up and dont know what it actually is but I doubt it is going up at the same rate)

well most people are not targeting miami unless they are from south florida. For people that want south florida, White and case and Greenberg are the top 2 choices hands down followed by Akerman or HoganAnonymous User wrote:I don't agree. OP here. Anyone know what the salary increases are for GT? Pretty sure it's far less than NYC lockstep, can't remember where I saw it though.

yes but COL in FL is tremendously less than NYC. You will make out very well with any 6 figure salary in SoFl.
