Do you happen to know what 2014 was? I would also be in a satellite office.Anonymous User wrote:Be careful--they no offered a large percentage of the class in 2013 according to NALPAnonymous User wrote:Can anyone provide insight into work life balance at PH and the associate experience.

Possible. But something went very wrong in 2013. You should try to get them to give offer rate for this past summerAnonymous User wrote:interesting.. i've heard the opposite, that as a whole firm profits are up and the firm is growing. (opening new offices)

Not me personally, but a friend just started as an associate there. From what they told me, the firm does not have a culture of politeness (e.g. - many so-called "screamer" partners). Also, the attorneys tend to be more "blue collar" (their words) than other biglaw firms. Hours are on par with peer firms.Anonymous User wrote:Can anyone provide insight into work life balance at PH and the associate experience.

I spoke with recruitment. 100% offer rate this past summer and they are looking to make this a trend.
My CB was with a satellite office. First normal interview with a senior associate. Then met with 3 partners. I did have a short hypo. I found this to be fun, and a way to show my strategic thinking. Overall, I loved the individuals I met with. I hope you have a similar experience.
I am accepting my offer.

The worklife balance is OK. It depends on the office and the practice group.

Agree that it depends on the practice group, did not seem like anyone was struggling to hit their hours also seemed like many of the associates had families or active lives outside the office

I know this isn't what you want to hear but chances are we won't have the same prompt. The attorney who read it chose randomly from a double sided sheet that had close to 20 options. I just took a moment to think, identified the legal issues, told the attorney what information I would request from the client, and then gave a "hypo" closing. In this, I reiterated what we would do for the client, how we hoped to resolve the situation, and possible outcomes.
I think they liked the way I ended the hypo. Showed a client centric mindset.
The prompt will be blatant.

I also think my interviewers valued my commitment to the market area, and the effort I had made to get the CB. I mass mailed the firm multiple times, called to follow up when I had not heard from them, and reached out multiple times after my interview. If you really want PH make sure you emphasize WHY PH. I know that is generic advice, as you should always be able to identify why X firm, but if there is a trule genuine interest in PH (beyond I want to be employed) that will resonate with your interviewers. Good luck - I am sure you will do well.

Re: Pepper Hamilton work life balance
I have a close family member working for PH in Philly. As a firm they are great but you aren't working for the 'firm', you're working for a small number of partners with extremely limited to no ability to move around within the firm. It only takes one partner in one department to make your life hell, and that is absolutely the case for said family member. She is miserable, the partner is essentially Satan, and other partners have thrown her under the bus for their mistakes so that they don't have to deal with said senior partner.
So maybe you'll get lucky and get a great group of people? Or you will bill 2300 hours every year for under-market pay while getting blamed for mistakes that happened in cases before you were even a lawyer, let alone the one making said mistakes.

Re: Pepper Hamilton work life balance
I have an in-office interview with them soon, and I would really appreciate a more detailed advice on the hypo. This is the only interview I got now, so I really want to do well. You said you talked to 3 different partners...that means you had 3 different hypos? Were they similar? Is the hypo read out to you in a couple of sentences? What subject matter would you categorize the hypo was on? (contracts? corporations? pro bono?) If you don't feel replying the details here, please PM me. Any advice would help!!! Thanks.Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Can someone give any insight into their cb procedure ?

Re: Pepper Hamilton work life balance
what areas of law are you guys looking at? i have a friend who works in the ip group at PH in DC and he says the group puts emphasis on maintaining a work life balance (but when you're expected to work, you will work A LOT). the members, including partners, respect each other regardless of the positional hierarchy. i guess it really depends on the group/partner you work for.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
