Sidley vs Paul Hastings (LA)
Interested in litigation, possibly labor and employment but not set on it. Anyone have any opinions on one versus the other?

A lot of people are gonna talk about sharing offices. A lot of people are also going to say avoid PH b/c they no-offer alot. At least they did when I was 2L, idk if they've changed in that regard. I'd take a good look at PH though. I hear weirdly terrible things abt Sidley LA. Like there is more uniformity of opinion that it's godawful. Friend of a friend is desperate to get out of Sidley LA. But you gotta balance that against the no-offer sitch w/ PH.

Could you be more specific about what you've heard about Sidley? I have heard nothing but great things, so I'm really interested to hear that people think it's godawful...

I'd take PH. Sidley and PH are roughly the same for general lit and PH is way better at L&E which you might want.

Paul Hastings is a bigger name in California, I'd go with them.

To be clear I'm only talking about Sidley LA. I have a friend there who says it's absolutely terrible, has been there for a year and is desperately trying to jump to another firm. Says it's just a toxic environment. S/he is not in lit--so it may be different there. They insisted that it was not just your normal, biglaw sucks-type grievances. They said a lot of the partners are socially awkward and unreasonably demanding (beyond normal biglaw). Also talked to a could people who had been to their events and agreed to the extent they could, said you can definitely feel the weird awkwardness in any room that office occupies.Anonymous User wrote:Could you be more specific about what you've heard about Sidley? My experience with Sidley LA has been pretty awesome. Associates and even partners have been very accessible and generous with their time.

Thanks everyone, interested in hearing some more opinions though. Specifically interested in culture/morale at these firms.

FWIW: I've heard good things about Sidley LA from other people in the profession (in LA) and one of their summers from last year. I accepted.
