GDC (DC) vs Skadden (DC)
Any thoughts? Not sure exactly what I want to do. Skadden seems to have the stronger national brand, but The DC office of GDC seems very highly regarded.

GDC has much better QOL reputation. Skadden's brand is great but not if you burn out. I'd also say GDC has a great brand. Are you looking to do litigation or corp or unsure?

I'd take Gibson Dunn personally, but a lot of that is just aversion to Skadden. What practice groups are you targeting, and how were your impressions of the people you've met? Have you done second looks/spoken to associates at the office/spoken to summers?

Skadden really only has a "stronger brand" (for whatever that's worth) in New York. Gibson Dunn is much more highly regarded than Skadden in DC and California, for example.

I'm not sure that's entirely true in DC. Skadden is a big player in DC. Gibson Dunn DC is better for appellate and straight commercial litigation (although in the latter both are Band 2), but Skadden has some niche practice areas like national security, election law, financial services regulation, etc. in which it would be a reasonably better choice than GDC.SLS_AMG wrote:Skadden really only has a "stronger brand" (for whatever that's worth) in New York. OP Here: investigations and/or antitrust are things that sound interesting to me. Obviously more inclined to do litigation stuff, but I like some aspects of corporate as well.
Is GDC in DC really considered "better" than Skadden?

According to Vault they're neck and neck. Gibson has a nice pull in DC.
