What does shortly mean? (Call back stage)

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Sep 13, 2014 11:47 am

I got a call back, then I got email confirming the call back and within the email it said that who ever is the manager for the firm's office will be contacting me shortly with details etc. This was in the middle of the week, and I haven't heard anything. So I am wondering what does "shortly" mean?

I would assume within a couple of days. Did you check your spam filter just in case?

Whatever you do, don't let thinking about this take precious time away from your mass mailing. That should be your focus right now.

This is your first lesson of biglaw. Shortly means nothing. Could be mean in 1 minute, could mean never.

yeah, DF is exactly right. Just going through OCI, I have been blown away by the different interpretations of "shortly" and "soon"

Not to hijack the thread, but if they give deadline that passes without hearing anything, is that an auto-ding in all cases?

I followed up and got a deadline... which then passed, but ended up getting an offer! Although I think usually you're on hold or expect a ding days from deadline

If it is a lateral hire does it make a difference?
