Should I stop massmailing?
OCI is over and I struck out. I have been massmailing since late July and got a few screeners which haven't led to anything. top 10% at a T2.
Are firms done screening or should I keep it going? Thanks

Keep going. Firms are still screening and giving out callbacks.Anonymous User wrote:OCI is over and I struck out. I have been massmailing since late July and got a few screeners which haven't led to anything. top 10% at a T2.

Re: Should I stop massmailing?
I got a callback in mid-October last year. Keep following up with firms that haven't rejected you; look for more firms to contact, including small and mid-size firms; also try contacting alumni at firms you've applied to (just ask to talk to them or take them out for coffee). Lots of firms are done hiring, but there are still plenty who are still looking. I know it's discouraging and it sucks, but honestly what the hell else are you going to do?

I feel like this gets said every other day. Offers do go out in late-September/early October. Probably even later. But there are steady streams of screeners and offers still going out late into September. Keep mass-mailing. At this point keep following up. I followed up with firms three times and got screeners on the third more than once. Don't stop until every firm imaginable has rejected you.

+1. I recently got a cb from a firm I mailed in mid-July. Keep mailing, following up, etc.oblig.lawl.ref wrote:I feel like this gets said every other day. Just yesterday got a CB from random mass mailing. Plenty of places are still looking. Don't stop until you have a job.

Yeah, I've had 3 requests for screeners from mass mailing in the past week (major market). I did these mass mailings back in July. Still worth it to keep plugging away, and definitely follow up if you haven't already.banjo wrote:+1. I recently got a cb from a firm I mailed in mid-July. Target secondaries, many of them are still doing OCI right now. If I could do this process again I would have mailed New York sooner than I did and the main secondary I applied to much later.

OP here
I have been mass mailing, no luck.
Just wondering when to stop, sometime in NOV?
Also, I have covered every NY big firm and a secondary market I have ties with. What other markets can I apply that do not care about ties? Thank you so much. Striking out really sucks!

Follow up until you have rejections in hand from every one. Sometimes it's a function of coming across the right desk at the right time.
But yeah, maybe in mid-november you can stop.

I guess you can stop once you've either received an offer or decided you'd rather be unemployed. Otherwise I don't see why you wouldn't literally apply to and then follow up with every law firm that hasn't explicitly rejected you in perpetuity. And even for the ones that reject, you can always start re-applying next summer if you are still looking for work.
