Screener w/ some Associates of Firm that Rejected Me at OCI
I got a dilemma. I mass mailed a firm that rejected me after OCI due to a horrific interview, and they've invited me in for a screener with some associates.
Should I follow up and go in and assume that the initial rejection is moot at this point?
What exactly is a screener with some associates?
Thanks for any and all advice on this matter!

A screener w associates is likely to be a 20-30 min interview where associates do the interviewing

Don't bring up the other interview. If they do, laugh it off.

How would I go about laughing it off? Say something like, "oh, yeah, I figured I'd give it a second shot b/c I've heard such great things about your firm and really want to work here"? Or should I get a little more specific instead of saying "great things"?Actus Reus wrote:Don't bring up the other interview. If they do, laugh it off.

I'm curious what you said in your mass mailing to get the second chance. Congrats on that alone.

Associates usually means more than one associate as denoted by the "s" creating the plural form of the singular nounAnonymous User wrote:Multiple associates in one interview?baal hadad wrote:A screener w associates is likely to be a 20-30 min interview where associates do the interviewing

Is this the same office or a different office?
I got an offer from a different office of a firm that rejected me at OCI, so that can definitely happen.
But even if it's the same office, go for it.

OP- you need to share your wildly successful strategy in the mass mailing thread. Give it a week or two and then post it anonymously if you're afraid to be tied to this anon account, you're anon after all so no reason to be so secretive about it and it might possibly help a lot of people.
As for your question, I would treat this like any other screener and fix whatever went wrong the first time if that's something you can fix.

This happened to me (CB, not offer)Kikero wrote:Is this the same office or a different office?

My CB is coming up. What do I say if they ask about the other office?

Re: Screener w/ some Associates of Firm that Rejected Me at OCI
They didn't bring it up at all with me, so I don't have any definitive answers. Personally I don't think getting rejected at the screening stage really means that much. A screening interview is about how much you click with one person in 20 minutes, obviously you have the qualifications they're looking for since you got a call back.
I don't think it will come up, I mean it's sort of unfair to ask you why you didn't advance to the next stage since you honestly don't know the reason. If they actually do ask you though, I'd probably say something along the lines of "I enjoyed speaking with X and what s/he told me about the firm interested me." Don't make excuses; don't say that you didn't get along with the interviewer or you were having a bad day. Keep in mind that a lot of people are applying to these firms. It's very possible that your interview actually went well or at least not poorly and that you didn't get a call back simply because they had enough other applicants.

Na, I'm getting worseJusticeJackson wrote:Ya, I agree. Send this my way. I'm super curious now (and I'm employed and not even really looking).dstars823 wrote:wouldnt mind hearing what you did either.
I looked at interviews like this: what's the waste in going? even if it costs you a few hours of your life, the worst that could happen is you don't get an offer. Plus, interviewing makes you better at interviewing.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
