Sidley Austin Chi -- Thoughts? Red flags?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Sep 09, 2014 12:15 pm

Hey all -
I am evaluating my summer offers and am leaning towards Sidley Chicago. I liked the attorneys I met in the office and people that I have spoken with in the Chicago legal community generally had good things to say about the firm. I was wondering if anyone here who had first-hand or even just relevant knowledge about the firm would be willing to share their thoughts/ let me know if there are any red flags that I might have missed.

Background - Want to be in Chi / leaning corporate.

Thanks so much!

Congrats!

Recently accepted a SA offer at Sidley CHI (also leaning transactional). Came down to fit for me - an aggregation of conversations and anecdotes. Obviously work quality and reputation in Chicago is stellar - but people seemed warmer and more reasonable than Kirkland (loved the "soft" factors).

Not a red flag (really personal preference) - but if you want to kill yourself and bill 2,500+, bonuses are (apparently) less than Kirkland at the tail of the distribution.

Some day law students will realize that most actual attorneys at these firms don't have this kind of animosity toward the other top dog in the city.

No animosity - if anything, was acknowledging that K&E pays more generous bonuses to their top billers. Anything beyond that was the playful articulation of personal preference.

Does anyone know if Sidley reviews/considers 2L grades (grades accrued after SA offer in 2L fall but before SA program starts between 2L/3L year) in determining whether to extend SA's offers at the end of the summer?

They will ask for them, but like at most Biglaw firms, don't consider anything other than egregious grade drops to be a problem.
