How do firms/offices determine who receives an offer?

1.) Numbers approach - Interviewers rank you 1-10, count up the numbers: one the one hand, if you reach a particular # or higher, instant offer; on the other hand, they rank the interviewees by #, granting offers to the top interviewees at the end of CB season

2.) Intuition approach - Interviewee met the prerequisite school/rank/journals/moot court, so all that is left is to determine whether the interviewee "rubbed you the right way"

i would love to know the answer to this... i thought evals were almost all "soft" but the numbers approach seems logical
