Share Best Interview Questions
Tis the season. "Best" is amorphous, subjective at best. Use your best judgment. I'll get things started: Tell me something about yourself that I don't know from your resume.

Outing myself to some...
I interned for multiple people in the U.S. House + Senate. Interviewer: "Who'd you have to sleep with?"

Pop quiz on my writing competition note topic. The topic was one of the interviewer's "favorite" subjects.

Not the best question, but the "best" answer by a partner, while on a callback:
"That's a bullshit question and I'm not going to answer it."
Okay fine.

Re: Share Best Interview Questions
Been asked by multiple CB interviewers: What is your biggest weakness?
I really don't know how they expect people to answer this truthfully. Like, I'm not going to tell them that I'm a compulsive masturbator and that it can interfere with my productivity. You almost have to lie to them if you don't want to get dinged.
Anon b/c, well, this would be embarrassing

Something about substantive work, I don't remember exactly the phrasing. I mean it was bullshit in the way all these questions are bullshit, but wasn't something noticeably egregious that would merit the response (imo). Guy was a massive prick throughout.arklaw13 wrote:What was the question?beepboopbeep wrote:Not the best question, but the "best" answer by a partner, while on a callback:

"Tell me about a time you had to absorb a lot of information and put out a work product."
That was from a partner. Next interview was with an associate, and pulls out this sheet that they were given with potential interview questions. He laughs about it and points out the above question as a particularly shitty one that nobody would ask in the real world. I told him it just happened to me. His jaw dropped and he laughed for a solid 30 seconds.

(Never said i admired any of the attorneys)Boston firm that's not Ropes or WilmerHale wrote:Why did you admire the attorneys that you admired from your summer job?
(Dinged by both the day before this screener)Passive aggressive V5 wrote:Oh so you spent some time in Korea? Simpson and Cleary would probably love to have you huh?
(Included private equity in a list of corporate practices that I would be interested in. This was probably fair question but was unprepared. Spouted off some vague shit)Free market bros wrote:So what about private equity specifically is interesting to you and what do you think it takes to succeed in private equity?
(Never worked a day for that journal, the fucking title of the journal was pretty self explanatory)Super COLLEGIAL midwestern firm that attached its ding letter as a separate attachment in the email wrote:Oh it looks like you were invited to a journal before you transferred, what kind of work did this journal do?

"Tell me why people are friends with you. It's sure as hell not on this 8 by 11 sheet paper that is your resume: this tells me that you went to college - shocker - and also law school, and lists a bunch of purportedly 'legal' experience. But why are people friends with you?"

Laughed out loud while reading the Burger King bit.Regulus wrote:Oh man... I get a lot of these for some reason. Some of the ones I got this OCI season were:
"If you had an extra hour in the day, how would you use it?"
I said sleep. Dinged.
"How do you deal with stress?"
I said eat. Got the CB.
"So have you heard about the Burger King news?"
I asked if they were adding a new item to their menu because I hadn't heard the Tim Horton news that morning. The screeners thought I had a good sense of humor, but I was actually being serious. Got the CB.
"If you could be one part of a bicycle, what would it be, and why?"
Randomly stated a part of the bicycle and literally just said what that part did. Got the CB.
The most random thing that has happened to me of all OCI was my screener with one firm that eventually dinged me. I was the last interviewee of the day, and the interviewer had a 3-ring binder in front of him with other student's resumes and sheets to evaluate them. Throughout the interview, he kept tearing resumes out of the binder, crumpling them up, and then playing basketball with them using the trash can that was behind me. He kept missing, and I kept picking up the resumes and throwing them away for him. I am pretty sure that he did the same thing with my resume after that interview was over.
I want an interviewer who's skilled at Resumeball.

Re: Share Best Interview Questions
I really like the bicycle question, if I ever get to interview I'm stealing that. I can think of a compelling answer for literally every part except the rear wheel ("I'm just following along for the ride!!!").
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
