Simpson David Sidley, etc - Firm Decision
Does it make any sense to choose Jones Day, Sidley, White & Case, et al. over STB/Davis? Looking to do transactional work in NY. Thank you for any help.

Maybe if you thought one of those was a significantly better fit for you personally?

Absolutely not -- same market, basically the same hours, more prestige, "better" work, and I personally like pure lockstep over the mixed/"black box" compensation systems that some of the other firms you mentioned use. Enjoy STB/DPW.

Making a similar decision but (1) interested in litigation and (2) without DPW. STB vs. Latham, Sidley, Debevoise, GDC for Lit?
edit: forgot to mention, this is still NY.

That's not similar at all

I'd choose based on fit or unless a firm is strong in an area you're really interested in
Hope this helps
