Jenner & Block not doing so well?

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Aug 29, 2014 10:57 am

Has anyone else heard this rumor? Just wanted to see if there's any merit to it before making a decision.

They had a 7.7% drop in revenue last year (2013) year alone. Thats pretty sizable.

FWIW, I had a partner at my Jenner callback tell me that their revenue this year is on track to blow last year out of the water, but, that could also have been marketing.

Last year was bad for firm, no doubt about it. This year will be much better and hopefully last year was a blip. Firm has had a number of big engagements this year and all the young associates I know are on pace to comfortably exceed their billable requirement.

That may be so, but posting numbers don't lie and I wouldn't trust an anon with anecdotal evidence at best.

I am an incoming Jenner associate. The firm is gangbusters right now; in fact, they offered to accelerate my start date because they have a ton of work.

Can confirm. They asked people to start 1-2 months early.

That is encouraging. Does that mean first years have already started? At my firm first years are starting next week.

Are we talking about the Chicago office asking associates to start early? Any idea on how busy the LA office is?

Incoming Jenner associate here. I am in a non-Chicago office (not willing to be more specific, sorry) and was asked (but not required) to start early.

No one denies the firm had a subpar 2013. That doesn't mean it's a sinking ship: it's a conservatively managed firm with strengths in countercyclical practice areas and that is very, very good in several niches of the litigation market. And it happens to be blowing up with work right now - between a large engagement for GM, some significant cases on behalf of Fox/News Corporation and some other major studios, and a bunch of other big-ticked litigation matters, the firm is hopping.

Yeah but what is your first and last name (and middle initial)? If you are not cowardly you would provide the last 4 digits of your social too

you only have to worry about declining revenues for very large firms with a ton of overhead. you worry at a place like Dewey or Howrey. Jenner is much smaller by comparison. not only is there less overhead, but more institutional glue that keeps partners from jumping ship (which is what really accelerates the collapse)
