Baker Botts Silicon Valley No Offers

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Aug 23, 2014 6:17 pm

Just had a CB with these fellows (have not heard back yet). I also have offers already at other places in the area, but I really liked the Baker Botts people the best (also, it's a small office, so I figure they likely would be some of the people I end up working with.

BUTTT... I heard they only offer a 6-8 week summer program (wtf? do they want you to split?) AND, according to NALP, they only offered 4/7 last year!!! That is fucking scarey when I have 100% places to compare it to... But then, Vault says Baker Botts offered 81/87 firm-wide, and Chambers says 82/88 firm-wide.

I want IP lit, and I want Bay Area.

Does anyone know wtf is deal with this?? Why would the majority of the no-offers for the entire firm across 15 offices be centralized in this one small office (and I mean, SV is a booming area...) Is there any explanation for this? Might it have to do with the way they have the shorter summer program, which presumably leads more people to split, and maybe if you split and get the other offer, they don't extend you the offer, or something...idk....

Should I avoid this like the plague?

Thanks for any advice...

Get the offer then ask what happened.

is there any reason to expect a straight answer?

I would still appreciate anyone that may be familiar with Baker Botts. Unfortunately I don't know of anywhere you can see offer #s from years past... Is this typical for the firm?

ask once you have the offer in hand....perhaps ask recruitment to put you in contact with a former SA (who could then put you in contact with one of the SA who was no-offered). Do your HW once you have the offer

Recruitment & Hiring Tab, Summer Associate Hiring Questions Header -> # considered, # offered

This sounds legit, thanks. Didn't even think of getting in contact with a summer... 7 of them, any of you on TLS?

It's a TX firm, and if there is one thing TX firms love more than splitting it's no offering people. I assume that's the explanation. But definitely ask around.
