Skadden Chicago

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Aug 23, 2014 12:14 pm

Have a callback coming up this week and was curious about some things if anyone has any info.

What are people's views on how Skadden Chicago fits into Skadden as a whole? I've heard its kind of a franchise office, more than even a satellite, because of its background with the Mayer defection. I've heard this is great because the culture at the Chicago office has kind of remained more midwest, and it has a reputation for actually being friendlier than Kirkland. So if that is the upside, what is the downside with this office's situation within Skadden? Is it more independent than other satellite offices?

And if anyone has any input from specifically within the corporate group it would be great to hear anything that you think makes Skadden Chicago unique.

TYIA

Also if anyone wants to talk about CB->Offer timelines here, feel free to make this the all things Skadden Chicago thread.

I think it took about week and half to receive offers/dings last year.

Really nice people/pretty office, but got dinged so I can't say much more than that. I think that some of the firms higher-powered restructuring partners are in Chicago.

I think that Skadden views it as a plus if you're interviewing with more than one of their offices.

This is certainly not true. Where'd you get this info?

Credited. Just in my friend group, a lot of people were encouraged to do DC/NY, Chi/LA, etc. Recruiting seemed very jazzed about it.

Anyone have any insight on the tax group? I hear its actually farming out work to the NY office with how busy they are lately, sounds promising.

The tax group seems to be very, very busy. I liked their offices a lot. I anticipated their offices to be intense and stuffy ala NYC but I didn't get that impression. Junior associates seem to be leveraged a bit differently in Chicago so their office was pushing the whole substantive work earlier selling point. I bought it. Looks like a great place to be if you're interested in public m&a or tax. Don't be worried about Chicago being a "satellite" office - the Chicago office generates its own work and is profitable on its own. I don't know how Skadden is structured but I get the impression that each office stands alone (i.e., Chicago revenues go right back into the Chicago office). Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

Still waiting also. Think they might have too many offers out right now or something.
