let's discuss how we approach these common interview questio
Please feel free to add your own questions.
1. Why X law firm?
I try my best with this one but honestly...the law firms all seem so similar. I talk about what I'm interested I'm and how they have strong practice areas; I talk about people I've spoken to at the firm or people who have summered there; etc.
2. Why did you k-jd?
I say it wasn't an easy decision. I considered other options but ultimately...

Flash forward three years, what’s going on in your career?
(Answers range from deer-in-the-headlights to a lot of interesting segues). Not a “gotcha” question for most, others struggle.

If you can't come up with an honest, convincing answer for these, you must be having a pretty bad time at OCI.Anonymous User wrote:1. Why X law firm?

I really have no idea why people post things like this. Even if the question is bad, whats the point of being a dick?Will_McAvoy wrote:If you can't come up with an honest, convincing answer for these, you must be having a pretty bad time at OCI.Anonymous User wrote:1. Why X law firm?

Why x firm is just a good opportunity to say they have the best practice and rattle off a couple deals theyve done or companies theyve represented. Then you could maybe add if they have a certain unique system that you think the system will allow you to develop your skills because x and y.Anonymous User wrote:Please feel free to add your own questions.

K-JD say you have always considered law school because you're analytical as your X major shows and you thought being a lawyer would be a good profession-skill set match so you applied while in college. Make it sound like you've wanted to go to law school since sophomore year or something.

Re: let's discuss how we approach these common interview questio
From my perspective as an interviewer, there's no good answer to question 1. It's a stupid question, and I never ask it, but about half the people I interview try to work it into the interview anyway. The problem is that you'll never know as much about firm x as someone working at firm x, and rattling off a few things you've read on the website always sounds hollow. So my first piece of advice is not to try to answer that question if it's not asked. If it is asked, the answer suggested above is as good as any. (And it's better than the honest answer, which is probably something like, "because I want a job and you've historically given offers to people with my stats and if I get an offer from you and other firms, then I'll figure it out from there.")JohannDeMann wrote:Why x firm is just a good opportunity to say they have the best practice and rattle off a couple deals theyve done or companies theyve represented. Why x firm is easy. If it's a big international firm talk about the international "brand", globalization of the economy and how the firm provided the biggest and the best.
For a smaller firm like a Seward and Kissel, talk about how it specializes in what you want, smaller classes = leaner staffing = more experience early

1. Why X law firm?
Have a real reason for why you picked that firm; otherwise, don't pick that firm
2. Why did you k-jd?
If you're asked this, you're screwed anyway. Don't let yourself get to the point of being asked this

As a K-JD, I was never asked about this by any employers.
