I applied to the clerks/fellows/pmf one. Haven't heard anything yet and USAJOBS status is still "received". I'm guessing USAJOBS status will change before we hear anything.

Re: SEC Chair's Attorney Honors Program
I wrote a paragraph or so for each and enclosed a cover letter. I assume they didn't get the 500 app maximum since the posting remained open until Sunday. Best of luck, guys and gals!

Yeah I'm hoping that the fact that it was only open for 10 days and didn't seem to be widely advertised (it wasn't even on their own website!) means they didn't get too many applicants.

Re: SEC Chair's Attorney Honors Program
Not sure about this, though hoping you're correct. I had a friend whose app said incomplete in USAJOBS but the SEC said it looked good on their end, so if this was a common issue, USAJOBS may never have hit the 500 cap?Anonymous User wrote:Yeah I'm hoping that the fact that it was only open for 10 days and didn't seem to be widely advertised (it wasn't even on their own website!) means they didn't get too many applicants.
Anyway, hoping that isn't the case because 500 apps for jobs in all 14 locations is...not very many.

There are 10 spots to be filled. Only a few of the regional offices will have a spot.Anonymous User wrote:Any idea how many spots they are trying to fill?
Interviews will be conducted early Sept.

Huh, I guess the SEC and I define "many vacancies" differently. Do you know how many people applied?Anonymous User wrote:There are 10 spots to be filled. Only a few of the regional offices will have a spot.Anonymous User wrote:Any idea how many spots they are trying to fill?

Different anon here, but the 10 spots is accurate. Source was direct information sent to SEC interns this past summer. I was one of them.

Do those 10 spots include the law clerk hiring (which was a separate USAJOBS announcement) as well or just entry level?Anonymous User wrote:Different anon here, but the 10 spots is accurate. Source was direct information sent to SEC interns this past summer. I was one of them.

I applied to it. I'd be interested in hearing from people who have worked at CFPB also.Anonymous User wrote:Any one applying to this?

Re: SEC Chair's Attorney Honors Program
I recently started with the agency. I got my job through the advance commitment program (now renamed the Chair's Attorney Honor's Program). They still had it going over the past few years. This year they decided to make it "official" again, rebrand the program and re-open it up to people who didn't do an internship or the honors program with the agency. All of that to say, be prepared for this process to take several months. For me it took 3 months from interview to receive the initial offer. Another 2 months for the final offer. Unfortunately big fed moves a lot slower than the private sector.Anonymous User wrote:No news here.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone hear anything?

How much do grades matter? Would median at Cornell/Northwestern/Duke be competitive?Anonymous User wrote:I recently started with the agency. Re: SEC Chair's Attorney Honors Program
To be honest the SEC (and many federal agencies) aren't as concerned about prestige as private employers. That's not to say you won't find people from top schools, but you will find just as many from lower ranked schools. Generally a 3.3 from Duke vs. a 3.3 from BC would be viewed the almost same. They are much more impressed by industry experience and a demonstrated interest in Securities Regulation. So the candidate with this would have would have the upper hand all other things being equal.Anonymous User wrote:How much do grades matter? Not to say that there aren't exceptions, but since there are no school specific cutoffs (the general one is a 3.0) and the interviewers have a lot of autonomy when it comes to deciding who gets interviewed/hired, it's difficult to predict the success of a candidate. Grades matter, but its one of several factors considered. If I had to rank items in the order of importance it would be 1. Experience/ demonstrated interest 2. GPA 3. Fit 4. School. Also a lot of it is just luck & timing.

Thank you so much for answering questions!
How are clerkships viewed? Any difference from COA to District?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
