How soon to update interviewers?
How soon is too soon to update OCI interviewers? I received a callback from a firm in an area out of my home market, and would like to email my interviewers for that outside area that I will be in town. Since the callback is the week of the 18th, I would need to send out an email this week. However, this will mean I'd have sent an email a week or less from my OCI interview. Is that too early or will the interviewers understand because my callback is coming up so quickly? I don't want to piss them off unnecessarily.

I don't really understand what the issue is, but if you have not received a callback from the OCI firm yet then it'd be presumptuous to bring up when you're in town to do the callback you haven't been invited to yet. If it's to reschedule an existing callback then the sooner the better is probably the way to go. The ticket might be amendable until a week out, and more importantly, the interviewers aren't picked until a few days before. If you need to change it, sooner is always better.

Right, I guess it would be presumptuous.. I just thought it would be helpful in making their decision. I.e. if im going to be there anyway, it would be cheaper to split the costs with another firm. Like I would say something like thank you for the interview, just letting you know ill be in town during X and would love to see the firm if given the opportunity.

Yeah, don't do this. The person you e-mail will think it's pretty damn weird. At best, they will think you're considerate, and just not care about the $300 you're saving them. If they give you the callback then it would be smart to bring it up to recruiting when you call, because maybe there's a small chance it would impact when they schedule you. Frankly, recruiting has a preset budget, and there's a basic human tendency to use up as close as 100% of your budget as you can without going over. Even if the $300 was returned, the odds of this partner seeing even $1 of it are next to none. If it's an associate then they won't even see the dollar. The firm's main expense is the attorney's time. In a service based business, the people are always the driving economic force so they'll only give you a callback if they think it's worth 2 hours worth of production.

I should add that everything I said may be inapplicable if this is a small law firm with under 100 attorneys.
