Working after the bar exam (August-October)?
What have people done during this time period besides relaxing?
Has anyone:
1. Started early at a big firm (convinced them to move up start date)?
2. Interned with a judge for two months
3. Worked for another law firm (with the understanding it is only for ~2 months)
4. Tutored LSAT/other tutoring?
Feel free to share stories or experiences.

Started big firm job in June (limited to 50h/week), returned Monday after the Bar. Since I didn't summer here, I wanted to make a good impression. Definitely the right decision, despite sheer exhaustion and lack of any semblance of a summer. I feel like I'm close to fully recovered today.

When did you ask them to do this and who did you ask (ex recruitment?)?Anonymous User wrote:Started big firm job in June (limited to 50h/week), returned Monday after the Bar. I'm broke so I asked the partners who hired me when they wanted me to start. They were more than happy to approve an early beginning because they were swamped. Recruiting feel in line thereafter.Hutz_and_Goodman wrote:When did you ask them to do this and who did you ask (ex recruitment?)?
I'd say ask those with whom you'll be most closely working if you can start early. If they have work, they'll make it happen.

I'm broke too and would've started right after the bar but we are a smaller firm and one of the summers has my office right now. Starting in mid August instead.
Heck I would've worked part time thru bar study if the logistics had allowed it.
A bar trip would have been nice in the sense that vacation and traveling are always nice. Otherwise I don't feel I'm missing out at all. I just want a regular income asap. I'll take a vacation next year...

My firm has a January start date for most associates. They specifically forbid us from working for another law firm in the interim period to avoid conflicts problems. We could, however, work for judges or corporations. Or we could do non-legal work (IE barista). So if you find something, you may want to run it by your firm.

I guess I'm just going to relax/travel the next ~2 months. I don't want to create conflicts by working a legal job. I've applied to some other jobs and no one wants to hire a person for like 7-8 weeks.

You know, you don't actually have to tell them that is your plan.Hutz_and_Goodman wrote:I guess I'm just going to relax/travel the next ~2 months. I don't want to create conflicts by working a legal job. I've applied to some other jobs and no one wants to hire a person for like 7-8 weeks.

If you need the money that's one thing but FFS do not intern for a judge.
