Give up hope on fedgov interview from April?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Aug 07, 2014 8:55 am

Just graduated, currently jobless. Interviewed in April for a position off USAjobs in a really niche area in which I have good experience. I was told I would hear in June/July. I followed up once in late June and once in late July, but heard nothing. It was a panel-esque interview with 3 people, and I thought it went amazingly well... if that matters at all.

Is it over?

Hard to say. I know I finished interviewing for my big gov position in July last year and didn't receive my official offer until the beginning of October. So I wouldn't say all hope is lost. Did they have to check your references? I know my agency did and depending on how long your references take to respond that could also delay the process. I would just continue to check in with them every two to three weeks as well as continue to apply for other gigs. If you are able to snag another offer you may be able to make the fedgov gig speed up the process.

Was it with DOL? When I was graduating, I had a panel interview there in March of 3L and then didn't hear anything until I got an offer in August (ended up accepting an offer elsewhere a few months before).

USA jobs will tell you when they've picked someone. If the status hasn't changed, it's probably just stalled.

Nope. Nope nope nope.

I interviewed for a fedgov job last year before the sequester, and got a job offer a year later AFTER NOT HEARING FROM THEM FOR 12 MONTHS STRAIGHT. Not that I took it (they offered me 10k less than what I was making, and I wasn't even looking for a job!!)

They have a different sense of time--aka time means nothing to them.

Are you that guy who applies for one job and then waits doing nothing until you get rejected?

Thanks, glad to hear that.

Nope, applying all over the place, just really hope I get this. Thanks for your input.
