Doing 2 Call Backs in 1 day
Experiences with this?
I'm trying to schedule a callback after my first one which is in the morning. What time does a morning callback usually get done? Or does it really vary?
If you do a morning CB with lunch, does the afternoon CB typically include a dinner or something? I would hate to miss out on the more informal meal setting

I wouldn't do this
I've had some run long
Not for any bad reason just to meet more people or whatever

I did this and it was a mistake. I didn't get an offer either place.

Welp. I'm doing this tomorrow. Really hoping the first one doesn't run too long.

I have two tomorrow as well, have 2 hours between them and no lunch scheduled. Just prepare for each and relax and be yourself. They already like you

I scheduled lunch at the first one before I knew about the second one unfortunately. I *should* still have enough time, but if something goes wrong I'm in trouble.Anonymous User wrote:I have two tomorrow as well, have 2 hours between them and no lunch scheduled. I have the same deal in about a week and half. Should I call and reschedule one of the CBs? The only way I could reschedule is to push it back by about 2 weeks...

I did it, though my morning CB didn't include lunch. It was a lot, and I was exhausted. But my second CB turned into an offer (withdrew from the first before decisions were made).

Re: Doing 2 Call Backs in 1 day
It's totally doable. I did four in two days. Definitely tell the morning firm and if that callback includes lunch, be sure to also tell the associates in case they haven't gotten the message from recruiting (happened to me).
Just plan carefully (know your route from A to B), be prepared to take cabs over public transportation if it'd be quicker, and if you carry some kind of bag with you, bring a few personal items to freshen up in between -- mints, if nothing else. If you're a coffee person, have coffee at lunch. Callbacks are exhausting.
Edit: I guess a bigger issue is when the second one starts. If Firm A has you scheduled for a 12:00 lunch, you're not going to make it to a 1:00 interview. But 2:00 should be fine depending on location.

I did S&C and DPW in one day. I declined the lunch at the first when I scheduled it, which left me 2 hours in between, way more than enough time. I just grabbed a cab and milled around in some lunch place till it was time. Both went fine, although it was a bit tiring. I think I flew home that night too.

Having only done morning CBs before, can anyone explain what a typical afternoon CB looks like? Dinner? Typical start time?

Re: Doing 2 Call Backs in 1 day
I did two in one day and got offers from both places. Be intelligent/proactive about it, and you'll be tired but nobody will hold it against you.
There are LOTS of variations though (Cravath all day interviews for as long as they want, because why the hell not, some firms don't do lunch or just do coffee even for morning interviews, etc.)
The standard CB is 4 interviews of 30 minutes each. For morning interviews only, there is lunch at the end, usually with substantially more junior attorneys.Anonymous User wrote:Having only done morning CBs before, can anyone explain what a typical afternoon CB looks like? not ideal. you should try to reschedule. if you can't, though, two a day is better than canceling a cb. even if you're tired, it should really only affect the afternoon cb, so just put your favorite firm in the morning. and obviously decline lunch in advance. assume you will be 2 hours behind. traffic will not cooperate.

Re: Doing 2 Call Backs in 1 day
These are less typical by firm than lunch callbacks. Some firms do 4 + coffee, starting at 2. Some firms do 4 + dinner, starting at 3. Some firms do 4 + on your way, starting between 1 and 3. Last year, had all types (and at least one of each type turned into offer, so don't worry too much about lacking the meal or the informal coffee).Anonymous User wrote:Having only done morning CBs before, can anyone explain what a typical afternoon CB looks like? Will turning down the lunch hurt you? Do you necessarily always even have the option? I feel like each morning callback I've done, lunch was just part of the schedule.

Re: Doing 2 Call Backs in 1 day
I did this multiple times when I was interviewing in remote markets where I didn't want to travel twice. It's really not a big deal. Just tell the first firm you have another interview in the afternoon. The only thing you might lose out on is lunch at the first firm, but in my experience firms will give you an earlier slot if you tell them you have a second callback in the afternoon.

If you only have a few CBs I'd try to avoid this. But if your schedule is such that you need t stack, this is hilariously doable. Caffeinate yourself in between and grab a quick snack.

Re: Doing 2 Call Backs in 1 day
My schedule required me to stack. I had one day where I did a morning CB, afternoon CB, and evening CB. I wouldn't recommend giving that a try. Luckily none of the three firms were at the top of my list so striking out three times in one day wasn't as painful as it would have been otherwise.daleearnhardt123 wrote:If you only have a few CBs I'd try to avoid this. Totally doable -- make sure to let both firms know so they can keep you on schedule (AM firm) and know that it's not your fault if you're running a tiny bit late (PM firm).

Re: Doing 2 Call Backs in 1 day
It's ok endurance wise, but...the only time I tried to pull this off was the only time one of the partners asked me to stay after lunch to show me neighborhoods in the area where people lived (not a major market). So you never know.
If push comes to shove, its not really a bad idea just to admit why you have to leave, I think people would understand. I was more awkward and said I had family reason or something. Not sure, but probably didn't go over as well.
