Up to this point i've mass mailed the recruiting contact on Nalp/website but there have been a few occasions where the hiring attorney listed is either an alum of my LS or UG institution. Both have very loyal alumni networks. Would it be out of line to send them my materials via email since the recruiting contact is so plainly listed?
Have other people done this and what has the reception been?
for what it's worth these are just a few firms where i wasn't pre-selected via OCI and I'd like to get my materials back into the mix to see if i can get an outside of OCI interview.

Re: Mass Mail contact
I would reach out as an informational thing. E.g., I sent in my materials to your firm and I saw that you are an alumni. Can you tell me more about the firm or some shit. Ask for less than "move me to the front of the line because we went to the same place."

Re: Mass Mail contact
Whenever the hiring partner's contact info is available, I always email them and CC the recruiting manager. That way, the hiring partner is likely to see your materials, and if they like what they see, they'll have recruiting set you up with a screener/CB. If you went to the same school as the hiring partner, even better. My anecdotal experience: Netted 2/3 CBs when emailing the HP directly, and 1/9 so far when contacting just recruiting.
