Any point mass mailing NYC from t14, below median, no ties Forum

By mass mailing I really mean mass filling out online applications on these firms' websites. Slightly below median at a t14. Really feel like this is going to get me nowhere, is incredibly tedious, and I would rather prep for OCI, mail secondary markets, etc.

I should have said no ties/connections/really strong softs - ie no networking connections at these firms, no high-level work experience, and I don't go to an east coast school/am not from the east coast. I just have a hard time believing any of these NYC firms are going to love my form cover letter and below median grades enough to give me any kind of an interview. Am I wrong here? What's the point in mass mailing these firms? What's the endgame? Do I need to do something additional other than mass mail - ie reach out to alums in the firms, follow up later, etc. (or is it too late to do these things).

I feel like my time would be better spent targeting secondary markets, targeting midsize firms in the non-NYC major market I'd most like to work, preping for OCI, etc.

I mean I wouldn't mind if you didn't mass mail NYC as I am also lower t-14 median and will be mass mailing the ones I didn't get at OCI, but if I were you I would definitely mass mail. You go to a good school, your grades are not horrendous and it is the largest and easiest market to get big law.

I mean, how long does it take to fill out these applications tho? Like 45 seconds a pop (unless you're doing individualized cover letters)? So doing a hundred applications, counting time to search, is maybe an hour and a half? How pressed for time are you right now?

Sure, it's very unlikely that any individual one of these applications will produce a response and callback, but collectively, there's at least a non-negligible chance that it will convert to an offer. The "time better spent" schpeal is a cop-out. It's negligible. The question is whether you want X% at a job, or maybe (X+5)% at a job. No offense, but Mal's right to attribute this to laziness.

Yeah OP I definitely agree it's definitely a good idea to ding yourself and not waste there firms precious time and resources

Your time is better spent doing all of the above. Put in a few hours at your 1L job. Do it at night. Stay up later if you have to.

Yes, you screwed up. Below median means you should have been networking several months ago. Too late to change the past. Don't compound it by cutting corners now.

NYC is exactly who you should be mass mailing. They are the firms most in need of warm bodies and least concerned with ties. You should also be targeting any secondary market you have a tie to. And contacting UG alumni and law school alumni at firms you think are the best fit. And contacting anyone in the legal field that you have a good relationship.

Kicking over every rock should be your full-time job (with overtime) for the next several weeks or until you have a job.
