I had "I am particularly interested in ABC LLP because of its strong bankruptcy litigation team" in my cover letter. Is it OK for me to say "I am interested in corporate/business" in the interview. I had the bankruptcy sentence above in my cover letter because I'm doing a bankruptcy moot court in fall. But I feel like I have some experience in corporate/business. Is it OK for me to change what I have in my cover letter in the interview?

Bankruptcy is a type of corporate law so I don't see the problem. It's not like you wrote you want to do civ rights and now you're gonna say you're dedicated to tax.

i doubt most students applying for jobs even know what most practice areas truly entail at particular firms, so, following your line of thought, perhaps we should say our practice area is "anything" in hopes to obtain a job, right?

No, just don't create false impressions based on what you might think someone wants to hear, if you're going to have to backpedal later.

I might have been a bit harsh in assuming that's what OP did here. It's intended in the spirit of constructive advice.

Is there a reason you can't say you are interested in both? It might be better to show that you are open to different areas of the law and just state why you are interested in those areas. You can tell the screener "I have experience in [corporate/business area] and ABC LLP has a great [corporate area] practice. I'm also quite interested in ABC LLP's bankruptcy litigation team as I will be taking bankruptcy moot court this fall..."

No need to pigeonhole yourself after your first year in law school

I disagree. I always just put that my interested area of practice is whatever the largest or second largest practice group is at the office I am applying to. I figure I can get pickier once I have offers
