Shartsis Friese LLP
Anyone know much about them? Would a 3rd-year associate at Shartsis be able to lateral to other firms outside of the west coast?

Re: Shartsis Friese LLP
Shartsis gets made fun of for its name all the time, but a family friend who was once a senior associate at a big law firm in SF described Shartsis as "the Cadillac of law firms." The idiom is a little anachronistic, which may also say something about the firm and its clients, but Shartsis is well regarded in the area (and it's definitely a local firm).
The question about lateral opportunities strikes me as a little odd, though, since I think Shartsis is the kind of place most people try to lateral into, not out of. And if they do any work outside of California, I'm sure it's limited.

The firm authored my textbook for my class on Private Equity and Hedge Funds. That must mean something, right?

So, bottom line, don't look at Shartsis if you plan to lateral to the east coast at some point in your career..Anonymous User wrote:Shartsis gets made fun of for its name all the time, but a family friend who was once a senior associate at a big law firm in SF described Shartsis as "the Cadillac of law firms." It means they at least had time to write a textbook.shadowofjazz wrote:The firm authored my textbook for my class on Private Equity and Hedge Funds. That must mean something, right?

The real question is how many times can you say "shart" in a row without laughing. I recommend doing it to the tune of that Meow Mix commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTunhRVyREU
If it's more than five, I don't want to even know you.

Thank you for the information. I am asking because I may have an opportunity there but may also want to move to the east coast at some point.
