Critique my Bid List - Boalt Transfer

Post by Internationalist » Sun Jul 27, 2014 6:48 pm

Looking for any additional insight on my bid list. My original school was T35 where I was somewhere in top 5-10% with a LR invite. I have pretty good WE with a few years spent working abroad. I have ties to both the Bay Area and NY and those are also my two target markets. My targeted practice area is primarily Corporate, either emerging companies, Venture capital or project finance, but I'd also be interested in Securities Litigation. It would be great to work for a global/international firm but that isn't my top priority.

I wasn't sure how to order the firms at the bottom of the list. The goal was simply to place a bid so I could approach the hospitality with my resume table later for an interview saying I bid on them but unfortunately didn't get a slot in the lottery (this is apparently common practice at Boalt). For example, Baker McKenzie is at the bottom because they have a "tax-preferred" label on OCI bids, so I'd rather try the hospitality table without the tax preference.

If you want to do emerging company work (in either NoCal or NYC), I'd add Goodwin.
