How's much ties are needed for SF SV?
Just wondering if these markets are extremely tie heavy. Really interested because if my computer science / electrical engineering background but have no ties whatsoever. Don't know if bidding them would be a waste.
I'm at a lower T14 that's nowhere near the west coast

Don't know if it's different for candidates with IP background but I think ties are important... I thought it was all BS until I didn't get a single preselect from firms in the area. t-14 t-%30 no ties...

Thx for the response! What happens if I've been getting preselects? Would they be less inclined to call me back if I didn't demonstrate strong enough ties during the screener?Anonymous User wrote:Don't know if it's different for candidates with IP background but I think ties are important... Agreed. It's not always easy to tell from a resume where a person's ties are, and how strong they are. If you've got a preselect, that may only mean your grades/work experience were interesting enough but that you still have to demonstrate ties or something extra on top of that.mushybrain wrote:Quite possibly. I can only speak for computer science degree, but you do not need any ties whatsoever for Silicon Valley. I told them I liked the weather and I got multiple offers in SV area

I agree that SV isn't as ties-heavy as SF, but I think many firms still want something they can point to. Figure something out.... family in the area, wife has family in the area, friends from college all live out here doing tech, etc.Anonymous User wrote:cool. thanks!MrProhibition wrote:I can only speak for computer science degree, but you do not need any ties whatsoever for Silicon Valley. Ties work something like this:
1. Be from SF/SV
2. Own property in SF/SV
3. Be young, single, and have parents who live in SF/SV
4. Have an engineering degree (SV)
5. Be male and have a fiance in SF/SV
6. Be female and be engaged to a lawyer in SF/SV

Yeah, I have no immediate family here but I have a crap load of friends who kinda migrated over to SF. Kinda what I sold at the interviews.
