I spoke with the CSO recently about 1L OCI in the spring. The office suggested that I resist the urge to mass mail (they didn't use that term) any local firms (to include any firms in the state) - does that sound reasonable to everyone? The general concensus on TLS seems to be to ignore CSO advice, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot if that's indeed what mass mailing locally would do.
I had planned on starting to send resumes/transcripts come 12/1 and I was going to include all the local firms. I'll be attending a regional t60. Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.

Re: Local Mass Mailing
The general consensus is to ignore CSO advice if it's bad advice. Some schools do have decent CSOs that give great advice (e.g. UVA's KD is phenomenal). Your school seems to not be one of those schools. Once UVA CSO was allowed to talk to us, they encouraged to mass mail any market we'd be willing to work in. The fact that your CSO talked to you before October/November is already a sign that they won't be very helpful if they didn't follow the NALP rules. When the time comes, definitely mass mail. As a 0.5L who hasn't even had their orientation yet, I would focus more on relaxing now, studying hard, and worrying about your mass mailing later on.Tygra wrote:I spoke with the CSO recently about 1L OCI in the spring. Also, as a 0.5L I'm not sure if you should be in this forum yet. You should peruse the Ask a law student forum until you're actually in school. Check back in this forum around late October/November when you should start looking into things.

Re: Local Mass Mailing
To be fair, they did state that they could't do any career counseling until October. I was just asking general questions, and they were providing general answers.
I think that you're right about what exactly I need to focus on - I know that my 1st year grades are the most important thing right now. I just had some questions that I didn't want to bother asking while I should instead be focusing on studying for finals.
In any event, I appreciate the insight.
