I plan on that...I just wanted to know if some of these firms (esp the V5 ones) reach down this far at UT. Trying to get some perspective on my real chances.

I think you have chances with all of them. Maybe a couple of those firms don't typically dip to top 20% at UT, but if you kill the interviews then I like your odds. These firms typically don't interview people that they have no intention of giving a shot.

Every firm ever. My apologies for being crass, but your questions are retarded. Why would a firm preselect you for an interview if they had no intention in giving you a shot? Like just some cruel joke for them to waste your time by inviting you for an interview when they know before hand they're gonna ding you? You should feel good and lucky that some really good firms want to interview you, not second guessing if you have a shot with them.Anonymous User wrote:That's good to hear... thanks. if you don't mind, what firms are you referring to?

Don't forget to mass mail. I know someone at UT who got a v50 NYC SA that way.

I would suggest these four or five are out of reach with your posted credentials. But something caused them to pre-select you (I'm not 'in the know' of all the details of UT's recruiting structure), so maybe part of your profile already stood out (URM?). Of these, S&C is least likely to give you a CB. Then Cravath, Cleary, and DPW.Anonymous User wrote: Cravath

I agree with other posters that you should approach the interviews as though you're fully eligible regardless, and try to knock them out.

Fellow UT student here. I think this is a great opportunity for us, but I am not sold that Sull Crom/Cravath are seriously considering most of the non top 5% people they are interviewing. Still excited and super glad I decided to do the fair.

Agreed. I got a Sull Crom preselect at top 40% (not any kind of minority) and I can't fathom having a real shot, but I'm still going to try my best obviously.Anonymous User wrote:Fellow UT student here. OP here
Thanks for the responses. I am obviously glad to have an interview at these places and plan on doing the best I can. I just wanted to see which ones actually hire at my grade level. Why? I don't know - to manage expectations, I guess or not to get too carried away. I just want a realistic perspective going in...

exactly.... and i know a few of the top 5% are considering TX only (friends with them). most of the firms did a half-day schedule and there still are open spots. if you don't mind, what firms are you interviewing with?

I know Cleary added more afternoon slots so they could screen more people. I wasn't originally preselected (maybe bc my cover letter uploaded wonky and cut off mid sentence), but after I replied to a CSO email giving them permission to forward my info to Cleary, I was able to schedule a preselect. I wouldn't think they would do that if they weren't interested in hiring UT students.Anonymous User wrote:OP here

Cravath, Davis Polk, SullCrom, Paul Wiess, Debevoise, Weil, Cahill, Ropes & Gray, Cleary, Skadden. Guessing I'm just outside top 10%.Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Fellow UT student here. Yea...I was wondering about that. I'm sure they are interested in hiring UT students - I just wish we had a little data on cutoffs and such. I emailed CSO about that but so far no response. I'll call monday and post if they have such info.
