Interview advice

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Jul 18, 2014 7:05 pm

I have an interview in a few weeks. I wrote in my cover letter that I got top grades in x & x (first semester). But, the concern is that I literally bombed my second semester (C+, B, D) and the partner asked me to bring my transcript in his last e-mail (site didn't say transcript was required). So should I go to the interview anyway or cancel and save myself the embarrassment? Thanks.

You should probably still go. Do you have a good reason for why your grades dropped?

Well, it was family illness, finance, relationship problems combined; they might just come off as excuses :S

You are going to have to learn to face this. Just go and do your best. Pick family illness as your reason. Address it directly, tell them it's been resolved and you will be on top of school next semester.

Can you retake the D?

Why cancel? Suck it up and go. I would proactively bring up the illness when you give him your transcript. Indiate it's been resolved.

Illness is legitimate. Especially since you had tippy top grades the first semester and you completely bombed the second semester (though not actually literally, unless there was an explosion), I think they would know you have potential.

Not saying that you can bypass grade cutoffs or what not but at least you got your foot in the door. Now is your time to impress them. Your grades are no longer your strong point. Work on your interviewing. Who knows.. maybe you're still above the grade cut off.
