Should I mass mail Texas? (See details inside)

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Jul 18, 2014 4:17 pm

I am in the jumble of what could possibly be medium at CCN after my 1L year

I absolutely want to work in New York at market or close to it over any job in Texas (Lifelong Dallas ties, strong Houston ties, undergraduate degree from TX school)

I bid fairly conservatively on my bidlist and am only using the Texas market as a backup. (I only want M&A/finance work/corporate; not Litigation)

KD-1 year off-JD --> No real work experience; finance undergrad; interesting resume but not professionally so

I asked my counseler and they said to focus that extra time I would spend on mass mailing TX firms into research on the NY firms I want because I should be good. If, after a few days at OCI, things feel as if they aren't going well, then I should come in, talk to them, and maybe start mass mailing then (and say I will be in TX on Sept XX, if you could see me then/etc)

Thoughts on this? Or should I just ignore what they say and start mass mailing within a week or two?

That sounds like pretty bad advice to be honest. Research is important, but Dallas and Houston are pretty huge markets that pay 160 with a low COL. That combined with having really strong ties and I would be mass mailing the hell out of them. I wish I had ties to Texas, although I will probably be mass-mailing them anyways just because ITE you can never send enough applications out, very few people are "safe" or guaranteed a job through OCI.

Thanks!

Any one with suggestions on when to send out letters?

Now. Get it on their desk, you can always follow up in a few weeks if they're not ready for it. But some firms are already starting the screening process/setting up visits.

Dude it takes a few hours to get properly acquainted with all of your firms - you definitely have time to kill mass mailing those firms
