Is this screener or CB? (Choate)
Got an interview invitation from Choate in Boston via mass mail. They emailed me to schedule but told me that the interview would be 2.5 hours long...Aren't screeners typically like half an hour? Does Choate just do things differently?

Re: Did i just skip screener..? (Choate)
Interviews from mass mail will sometimes be essentially a cb. That doesn't sound like a screener.

Lots of firms give callbacks straight from mass mail. I think the logic is that, if you're coming in just for them (not at OCI), they don't want to waste 20-30 minutes on you and then have to schedule you back in again for another 2-3 hours some other time.

What about a similar mass mail situation that led to essentially two separate 1/2 hour interviews back-to-back (so an hour of interviews total). Would conventional wisdom be screener, callback, or maybe does it depend on how the interview goes?Anonymous User wrote:Got an interview invitation from Choate in Boston via mass mail. That sounds more like a screener to me.Anonymous User wrote:What about a similar mass mail situation that led to essentially two separate 1/2 hour interviews back-to-back (so an hour of interviews total). I don't think there is conventional wisdom for this unfortunately.Anonymous User wrote:What about a similar mass mail situation that led to essentially two separate 1/2 hour interviews back-to-back (so an hour of interviews total). I encountered the same thing. I asked a friend at the firm and they confirmed that's just how that firm does things and that it's essentially a callback.

That's pretty weird. I've actually never heard of that before, so I definitely can't recall any conventional wisdom about it. I think it depends on who you interviewed with. The question is whether the firm is giving out offers after only those two interviews, so I'd want to know if you're meeting with folks who can make hiring decisions. If it was two partners in your practice area of choice who are high up in the practice group or are members of the hiring committee, then maybe it's a callback. If it was two associates or a random associate and partner, I doubt the firm is giving out an offer without inviting you to interview again.Anonymous User wrote:I don't think there is conventional wisdom for this unfortunately.Anonymous User wrote:What about a similar mass mail situation that led to essentially two separate 1/2 hour interviews back-to-back (so an hour of interviews total). I had this for a DC firm in the spring for a 1L SA. I thought it was just two screeners but it was a callback with 30 minute interviews with two attorneys at a time. Figured out it was a CB when they gave me a reimbursement form.Anonymous User wrote:What about a similar mass mail situation that led to essentially two separate 1/2 hour interviews back-to-back (so an hour of interviews total). Hmmm.... they gave me a reimbursement form too. Thanks for the heads up on that, and thanks to everyone else for their input.Anonymous User wrote:I had this for a DC firm in the spring for a 1L SA. Yeah if they pay for it, it's most likely a callback. I also don't think it would be unreasonable to just call HR and just ask whether there will be another round of interviews (honestly I kind of doubt there will be, though).
