Yale FIP 2014

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Jul 11, 2014 9:43 pm

It's around the corner. Post questions here and make this an anonymous forum for sharing bidding results and post-interview movement.

On a similar note, does anyone know if YLJ decisions are out?

Not sure how far this thread is gonna get, but I'll bite. I don't think YLJ decisions are out yet or I'd have heard from someone.

Not sure either. I thought to do it because there was a similar forum last year.

I haven't heard about YLJ either. Let's keep each other updated.

Question: How much do grades matter, if at all? And are either of you applying to Quinn in addition to doing FIP?

BTW, KT, I think there is still no news about YLJ decisions yet.

YLS Grad Here. Did FIP a couple years ago, so this might be slightly out of date.

Your grades will probably impact the number of offers that you get through FIP. They matter more for some firms than they do for others. The ones you would expect like W+C, Munger, Keker etc... were reputed to be more grade-sensitive.

If you have straight Ps you can still land a fantastic job, but you may need to bid widely and include a good number of big NYC firms. People occasionally strike out and its usually a combination of bad luck, low grades, and another "weakness" either on the resume or a poor interview style. But everybody I know who struck out managed to find a market paying job after FIP through connections and mailing.

If you still have the chance, I strongly suggest apply to Quinn. Not necessarily because they're the best place to work, the NYC office, in particular, seems like a stressful place, but because it's nice to have an offer in hand going into FIP. It lets you bid more selectively, provides experience of what a law firm interview is like, and it gives you a boost of confidence going into the process.

YLJ membership seemed to make no difference in terms of offers - even at the more selective firms. Where that matters is clerkships, and even there it's not nearly as important as its made out to be. So don't worry if you're not selected for journal.

Any callbacks to report yet?

I can confirm that Willkie (NYC) gave out callbacks at the end of certain interviews.

At what point should you freak out if you don't have a callback yet?

Also, did S&C DC / LA callback? My interviewer from A&P called back one, but not me and my friend. They are a firm that checks references, though. Ugh, I just want a job with a good firm.
