McCarter & English Ding Letter-- Very nice?
I applied for a summer associate position at M&E knowing full well they don't take summers. I just thought it was worth a shot. They sent me a mailed letter saying that they don't take summers but that " My qualifications are excellent, and they sincerely hope I reapply for an associate position in the future". Do you think this is the standard form letter they send to everyone -- or am I a special snowflake?

Holy shit dude. That's a REALLY good sign. A letter like that isn't really a rejection, it's a test. You need to reapply right now so they know that you are persistent.

Congratulations on the receipt of your first form letter. Soon you will have a mountain of them. I highly recommend making a scrapbook, so if you ever find yourself needing to be knocked down a peg, you have the materials to do so.
Also, stop applying for places that don't take summers. Waste of your time and the poor HR person's time. And when you apply for associate positions later with them, they'll search their email for you and find that you were dumb enough not to realize they don't take summers.

Definitely a form letter. Was there reason to believe they might take a few summers this year? If not, I'd recommend you try to focus your energy more on firms that, you know, might hire you.

Oh, good to see they are still using the same one from last year.zoomzoom88 wrote:I applied for a summer associate position at M&E knowing full well they don't take summers.
