Switching Firm Location
How difficult is it to switch the city you are working at after your 2L summer. Is it easier asking to transfer during your 3L year or is better to work in that city for a year or two and then ask for a transfer?

Re: Switching Firm Location
Short Answer: It depends on the firm, the particular locations, the practice group needs, etc.
Long Answer:
First, make sure you get an offer before you talk about this to the firm.
Second, because this really is firm-dependent, try to find people who have transferred offices and talk to them.
Third, usually it's easier to go from small office to large office.
Fourth, regarding when to ask (during 3L or after working for 1-2 years), I think it's better ask 3L because it's better to be in the place where you're planning to stay long term.
Fifth, make sure that you have a legitimate reason (e.g., spouse's job, family in the area, practice area). While this isn't necessary per se, it definitely makes it more understandable from the point of view of the firm.
Best of luck.
