Hey guys,
Advice appreciated--especially if you know of the relevant experiences.
I'm a summer associate in a bit of a unique situation at my V20 firm (CALI). I most likely will be able to join the tax group or IP & tech transaction group. I like both of the groups, and it seems like the hours at the tax group is a bit more predictable. (In any case, work is manageable.)
Main concern: exit options after 2-4 years. I'm interested in a stead 9-5 job that pays alright. Here's what I know about my dilemma so far:
Tax:
+ I might go to a small firm and practice 9-5/6, and still make pretty good money
+ Exit options after small firm tax is still good
IP & Tech Trans
+ Sounds exiting to work for a tech company,
- but I'm not sure if the hours are as predictable?
- I don't know if the exit options after working at a tech company are as good.
Please share any information/experience you might have. Thanks a ton, TLS!

Re: Choosing practice group: IP trans vs. Tax
For those who picked tax, care to share why? Is it because the hours might be bad for IP & Tech in-house positions?

Anon here. I enjoy both very much. But I suspect there has to be some difference between the exit opportunities that the two practices provide. That's why I started the thread...

Anon here. The tax group is mainly a support group for M&A (is that a bad thing for exit options?), with some tax controversy work.rad lulz wrote:What does your tax group do? Is it a lot of tax controversy? International tax? Is it just a support group for the M&A people?
