Mass Mailing - When to Schedule Interviews?

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Jul 06, 2014 11:18 am

When mass mailing, when should you say you would like to meet? Namely, before your OCI or after it?

For me, I'm mass mailing to my home market but unfortunately it's across the country and technically I am still working until OCI so any time I take off will not make my employer happy (judicial externship - my clerks are nice but pretty strict). I really want to say I'd be in my market the end of the week after my OCI (in the hopes that i have some callbacks at my school monday-wednesday after OCI so there won't be too many conflicts.). However, I'm afraid that is too late, especially if the firm has a policy of always doing screeners first.

So, basically, should I plan to take off work or hope that scheduling after my OCI won't be too late? I basically just do not want to anger the clerks/my judge since I want to be able to put them as a rec, but I feel that by putting us to work through OCI they really do not give a damn about our next job search even considering how important OCI is...ugh...thanks!

As early as possible. Take off work.

When it comes down to having an actual interview scheduled, I would be surprised if your clerks/judge had a problem with it. If they do, take some comfort in the fact that firms rarely call for references.

Heh you haven't met mine. If they don't call for references generally that is good. I guess I'd still need to put them on any list since omission would be a red flag.

I don't know your target market, but I never prepared a single list of references, and the only firm I know of that asks for a list at all is Covington.
