Timing for 3L Mass Mail - Have an SA
Assume one has an SA, and no reason to expect a no offer, but nothing is guaranteed. Also, assume the # of firms at 3L OCI is a joke. You would take this firm over any other firm even Wachtell. But you also don't wanna wind up at Papa Johns LLP with sticker debt.
When do you do it? What do you say in your cover letters?

If you haven’t been offered this is your last chance to see what else might be available. I took time off for a couple OCI interviews. It’s the way the game is played. All the firms know it. Basically, no harm, no foul.

I have a similar question. Should the mass mail go out with OCI bids or should it wait until beginning of August?

Wouldn't that just decrease my options of getting an offer where I wanna be? There's no way this is smart - re: skipping work. Plus I think you left the scope of the question.

What do you mean by skipping work (for interviews)??? The interviews shouldn't be until after you get your offer/your SA is over. My question is more in line with the cover letter - can anyone who was successful in 3L interviewing/offer (who had an SA at a firm) talk about what they put in their cover letter?Anonymous User wrote:Wouldn't that just decrease my options of getting an offer where I wanna be? Not OP, but wondering similar things. I'm close to the end of my SA. Firm hasn't been 100% for the last few years, but close (~95%). In previous years, offers were given out at the end of the program or shortly thereafter.
Another firm in the same market that i'm interested in put up a posting for 3L applications, but the deadline is before I will know about an offer from my current firm. I'm nervous about applying. Since the two firms are in the same market, should I be worried about my current firm finding out from another firm that I applied for a position? Do you think i'm at a huge disadvantage if I wait until I (hopefully) get an offer to apply?

I think we're all scaring the shit out of ourselves. Unless you've got some indication (really bad early review), rumorts of financial collapse, etc). we all should be fine. The odds are 95%+ in our favor.

That may be true, but don't you want to be prepared in case you're in the 5%? I do.SA2014 wrote:I think we're all scaring the shit out of ourselves. Re: Timing for 3L Mass Mail - Have an SA
Bumping this thread. My SA firm said that they probably won't be making decisions on offers until after my school's OCI. SA firm is in a major market, and I'm thinking about doing OCI/mass mailing just to play it safe. Firm told us to do OCI if we want, but I'm worried that it will hurt my chances if SA firm finds out. Does anyone know if this would be the case or not? I'm especially worried because one of the only firms interviewing for 3L OCI is in the same building as my SA firm.
Does anyone else have any pointers on applying for firms as a 3L when offers are in limbo?

Apply. It's not like firms don't know why you're doing it.Anonymous User wrote:Bumping this thread. My SA firm said that they probably won't be making decisions on offers until after my school's OCI.
