Talking Litigation and Business
I'm currently writing some cover letters for 2L SAs, and having some issues with ones for litigation firms. For these I'm really hammering the point home I want litigation. Naturally, a lot of this litigation involves businesses, and unfortunately my experience on the resume in that regard is not high and I really want to show my passion outside my resume for it. However, I'm afraid of that coming off "transactional" - ie being treasurer of a club, taking undergrad classes on finance/economics, etc. So, should i leave that stuff off and just emphasize what shows litigation on my resume or should I mention an interest in business, even though my experience in that regard may scream transactional law?

If you say you want to do lit then they will probably believe you.

"I came to law school first and foremost to be a litigator. I know that firms such as yours do much of their litigation work for sophisticated corporate clients and it was important to me to be sufficiently versed in corporate matters to be able to speak to other lawyers on the team and the clients themselves. I did this through my coursework in X, Y, and Z and my participation in W organization as treasurer."
Fyi everyone believes you want to be a litigator off the bat, the harder sell is corporate.
