If/when you look at law firm rankings for certain practice areas from USN, does the national ranking have influence over the metro/city work on there?
Like say XYZ firm has a top tier national ranking for M&A, but within the metro/city not so much. Does that metro office still get meaningful M&A (or whatever practice area) work given the national ranking of the firm in that practice area?
The gist is that I don't want to pass up opportunities to go after firms that actually have strong practice areas despite looking into these local/metro rankings thinking a firm is almost all lit or doesn't do any XYZ type work.
Also, if it matters, I'm looking at firms in Chicago. Thanks!

Re: Question about Law Firm Rankings on USN
Why on earth would you bother looking on USN?
If anything, look at Chambers
