Just graduated, worked for a mid sized firm in a very niche area for about a year during law school but was no offered after business tanked. I previously interviewed with this big4 firm for a position in that precise niche area in a large city that I am not from, and after making it to the 2nd interview I was rejected because of lack of ties (was told this specifically).
However, the recruiter offered to keep in contact and help me look for other positions I would be good for. I'm not 100% sure why she offered, but it is a very small niche area and I do know a few people in that group in the firm who were vouching for me, which might have something to do with it. I followed up with her about a week ago, and she said she was about to post a lot of new positions, so I should we should wait a bit before speaking. She then followed up with me a few days ago and said we should speak today.
My question is, what should I say to her? I looked at the new openings and there was nothing in that niche area I was working in. Also, I don't have a finance/accounting background, so I'm not really qualified for much else at a Big4. Should I find other things I'm like remotely qualified and suggest that, should I ask if she expects future openings in that niche area, etc.?

Re: Talking to a Big4 recruiter soon, please help!
I'd find a couple of positions that you could possible relate your previous experience to. They clearly like you if they have stayed in touch this long. Big4 think of themselves as more than lawyers and more similar to business people. Set up a time to speak, tell her you looked through the list of opportunities and wondered if there was a particular one she had in mind, if she says no you should have a couple in mind that you thought were interesting and why. Oh this position piqued my interest because I've always been interested in this or I think it would use my analytical skills that I gained in law school/undergrad major. If she asks about your previous experience say you've always considered yourself as more than a lawyer but law school/previous job was the best way to get the experience you wanted to round yourself out as a problem solver/consultant/ job description whatever. From my experience interviewing with Big4, they think of themselves as more than lawyers and actual problem solvers. I'd play that up. I don't think they are necessarily looking for you to have just one type of expertise. They are looking for someone who thinks a certain way that can work with their team to accomplish every step in a long process, not someone to accomplish one step in the process. Good luck!
